My name is Katherine Roberts and I have the privilege of serving as President for Delta Gamma at LSU in 2019. I am a native of Baton Rouge, and I am currently in my junior year majoring in mass communication with a concentration in public relations, as well as minoring in business. I plan to continue my education by attending law school after I complete my undergraduate. I am so honored and incredibly humbled to lead this wonderful chapter of phenomenal young women this year.
Looking back on what made me choose Delta Gamma, I realize it was never hard for me to fall in love with this organization. During recruitment, I met so many girls in Delta Gamma who were down-to-earth, well-rounded and kind. It was evident these women had an authentic sisterhood that was not padded or stretched, but instead glowed because it was a true representation of the bond shared. I could not help but think to myself how much I wanted to be surrounded by a group of young women like that. After bid day and the months following up to initiation, I stayed because everything I thought about Delta Gamma from recruitment was exactly what I received: a home away from home, a loving group of friends, and a support system that encouraged me to push myself to be my best.
Two and a half years have passed by, and I am so proud to be a part of an organization that continuously excels in service, academics, and personal growth. There is a genuine drive in this chapter to serve, fund raise, and spread awareness for our philanthropy. Academics is a priority in our chapter, and every accomplishment, small and large, is celebrated. Delta Gamma has nurtured each individual member to lead better and be successful. There is an abundance of opportunities in this organization to create the highest ideals of friendship, encourage educational and cultural growth, and develop the best qualities of character.
We as a chapter have moved forward positively and successfully, and I am proud to know this will only continue in 2019. I hope we can further instill that sense of belonging in all of our sisters and that each of us will strive to meet the goals we put forth not only for ourselves but our chapter too. Sometimes, it takes a little nudge from those who support you most to take giant leaps of faith outside of your comfort zone to be the best version of yourself. Delta Gamma has been that nudge for me, and I know it has been for so many others. In this new year, I hope I can help be that tiny nudge.
